About the Hope and Anchor English Pub
When owner Ian Robbins walked into the old Mayflower Building,
his first response was “This is an English pub!” Since growing up in
Ross-on-Wye, England, and being a very experienced pub connoisseur, Ian immediately decided to transform the
lovely, historic structure into a cozy feeling English Pub. During Ian’s youth
in England, the gathering
point was the Hope and Anchor Pub located on the River Wye in Herefordshire County.
Because the design of the old Mayflower was so conduit with the style of the Hope
and Anchor Pub, It made Ian feel right at home. Ian wanted to bring that
atmosphere to the people of the Stateline area.
“No
man is a stranger here. Duck in to warm
by the fire and the barman will know your story in the time that it takes to
pour a perfect pint. Soon enough,
everyone else at the counter will know it too, and you will be in the circle of
conversation. The band plays. Time becomes meaningless. You’ll stay until
the music and stories end. Then you’ll come back tomorrow and ever after, because
this is your place now. Quote from George
Killian
